As someone involved in
company operations from the upstream,
I aim to be a key person driving business
from the perspective of accounting and finance.

I have been in charge of managing expenses for many years, and in the past, I was involved in the establishment of an overseas factory. At that time, I realized the significant role played by the accounting and finance personnel in setting up a base. I learned the difficulties and joys of nurturing a profitable business as I gained a comprehensive understanding of the various financial aspects involved. From this experience, I began to want to engage in work that would involve me in the business from a more upstream perspective. When the transfer to our company was decided, I felt that it was a great opportunity to gain the kind of experience I had been hoping for.
Previously, I had managed employee expenses and business funds through existing systems and rules. However, naturally, our newly-established company had no such existing systems. Even for something as simple as employee expense reimbursement, we had to decide on things step by step, like what input format to use and which system to use for gathering and aggregating information. There is still much work to be done in building the systems that support our business, but I am happy to be working on a wide range of tasks that I had hoped for.

One of the big draws of our company is that you can have fulfilling days while being able to prioritize work-life balance. Utilizing the flextime, I can spend quality time with my family, such as taking my children to daycare every morning. On days when I mainly compile data or create proposal materials, I actively choose to work from home. By balancing days for face-to-face meetings with colleagues and days for focused work at home, I feel that my work efficiency has improved.
Another great change is that with this small, elite organizational structure, I can communicate more with employees responsible for different fields, such as those doing research and development. Previously, issues with the expense reimbursement system or questions about its use were handled by specialized personnel, so I didn't need to get involved. But now, only my team member and I know the system. I have personally addressed queries like, "What should we do in this case?" and "I can't input data correctly," which has led to expanded connections among others across the departments. I am happy to achieve the career advancement I aimed for while also strengthening bonds with family and colleagues.

While my immediate goal is to firmly establish the rules and systems that form the foundation of company operations, in the medium to long term, I aim to become someone who can contribute to business creation from an accounting and finance perspective. At our company, which combines the technologies of Honda and GS Yuasa to carry out research and development, we are certain to eventually achieve world-leading batteries. However, no matter how innovative and high-performing the product is, if the raw materials and manufacturing costs are too high and prices soar, it will not gain market demand, making it difficult to generate profits. By comprehensively collecting and analyzing data related to the market and products, clarifying the profitability of the business, and determining the direction the company should take, I want to actively try proposal-based work that leads to management decisions which help both myself and the company grow.
